She’s a Keeper tells the story of a daughter of a wealthy businessman who falls in love with a woman who has been hired to protect her.
She’s a Keeper, by a bisexual Filipino artist and gamer named Darunni, is a romance, action, and girl’s love story. It centers around two characters: company shareholder Clara del Samson, and her bodyguard, “Elle” Elena Perez.
As a warning, this review discusses some spoilers for She’s a Keeper!
Clara is saved from an abusive man by Elle, a member of Keeper Corp., composed of bodyguards who protect wealthy elites. She has been hired to protect Clara due to an increased rate of kidnapping in the city of Phili. While Elena disappears, she meets Clara again after Clara’s father secretly hires her. As both get to know each other better, they fall in love with one another.
She’s a Keeper has compelling characters and storyline, beginning with Clara taking a job at Samson Industries and Elle working as the team leader at the company. Not only are the characters complex, but it has, as Darunni put it, “unnecessary drama,” as this slow romance builds, with Elle and Clara realizing their feelings for each other, kissing one another on occasion. The amazing illustrations in every single issue of the webcomic help flesh out the story and pull you into the world Darunni has created.
She’s a Keeper, which has more than 80 episodes, is written and illustrated by Darunni. She is also known for her girls’ love webcomic, Babe! Series, about her and her ex-girlfriend, Zoey Medic, the slice-of-life comic No Coffee No Life and Oh! My Genie, the latter two which are on indefinite hiatuses. Unlike some other series, She’s a Keeper is ongoing, with the season 1 finale posted in late December of this year. Darunni has also said that the webcomic, known as SAK for short, is scheduled to end sometime next year and that she is thinking of writing another webcomic. Best of luck to her in writing webcomics in the days, months, and years to come!
She’s a Keeper is one of the many recent girls’ love stories. It’s unlike any other series I’ve read, distinctly different from series like The Pirate and the Princess, Ryder, or Lesbiampires, to name a few. It also does not shy away from mature themes, blood at times, and injury. The latter is clear from Clara’s cousin, Mike, getting beat up early on in the series, to give one example, or Clara and Elle having sex.
She’s a Keeper is available to read on the Webcomics website and mobile app. It will soon be relaunched on Tapas and Webtoon Canvas, with episodes exclusively revealed on Patreon once the episodes are completed.
